Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for services from the Center for Access and Assistive Technology, a student must:
- Apply and be accepted for admission to Hudson Valley Community College through the regular admission process.
- Meet the definition of disability as defined by federal and New York state law:
- any mental or physical condition that substantially limits an individual’s ability to perform one or more major life activities.
For additional information on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), please visit the ADA.gov website. - a physical, mental or medical impairment resulting from anatomical, physiological, genetic or neurological conditions which prevents the exercise of a normal bodily function or is demonstrable by medically accepted clinical or laboratory diagnostic techniques
- a record of such an impairment
- a condition regarded by others as such an impairment.

Suggested Documentation
To ensure the best possible services, we suggest that students submit adequate documentation of disability to the Center for Access and Assistive Technology.
- Students with physical disabilities, visual impairments or hearing impairments should consider submitting a letter from their physician that verifies the disability.
- Students with learning disabilities should consider submitting a full psycho-educational report completed by a licensed psychologist or appropriate professional.
- Students with psychological disabilities should consider submitting a letter from a licensed psychologist, therapist or psychiatrist.
NOTE: All documentation submitted should address: diagnosis, prognosis, functional limitations, and recommendations of academic supports.
The Qualified Professional Documentation Request (PDF) is available to assist students in obtaining adequate documentation from their provider.
