Business and Criminal Justice

The Business and Criminal Justice Department oversees academic programs in several unique areas that can prepare you to enter the workforce or transfer to a four-year college or university.

Programs

Accounting A.A.S. and Certificate

Accounting A.A.S.
Aimed at students who wants to focus their studies in accounting and also receive a solid business foundation, this program is primarily designed for those who wish to enter the workforce immediately following graduation. For those looking to to transfer to a four-year institution, transfer agreements exist with several colleges. Second-year coursework in accounting computerized systems, federal income tax and other electives allow you to explore the many specializations associated with the field of accounting.

Accounting Certificate
Whether you are looking for advancement in your career or the chance to learn a new skill set, this certificate program can provide you with an intensive immersion in the fundamentals of accounting using many of the widely-used accounting software applications. While this program is primarily designed for those who wish to enter the workforce immediately following graduation, for those who may want to continue on, all credits earned may be applied to the Accounting A.A.S. program.

Administrative Information Management and Technology A.A.S.

Administrative Information Management and Technology A.A.S.
This degree provides you with a foundation of skills in information management and technology used in today's office environment. The coursework is designed to provide you with the skills necessary to start a career as an administrative office professional or technical assistant in the public or private sector.

Business Administration A.A.S. and A.S.

Business Administration A.A.S.
This flexible business program allows you to create a program that meets individual transfer, employment or promotion needs.

Business Administration A.S.
Often referred to as a university-parallel program, students complete courses equivalent to those taken by first- and second-year students in four-year colleges. An Honors Track is available to prepare academically advanced students for transfer.

Disney & Other Internship Opportunities
Students in the Business Administration A.A.S. and Business Administration A.S. programs can earn six credits for the Business Administration Internship (BADM 290) course with local and regional internship opportunities, as well as the Disney College Program.

Criminal Justice A.A.S. and A.S.

Criminal Justice A.A.S.
This program is designed to prepare students for careers in the criminal and juvenile justice systems. Students could, after meeting Civil Service requirements, enter law enforcement, investigation, crime prevention, and corrections on the federal, state, county, or local levels. There also are opportunities for employment in private organizations.

Criminal Justice A.S.
Addressing the complexities of crime and justice, students will discover how to apply analytical concepts to evaluate the socialistic system of criminal justice.

Entrepreneurship A.A.S.

Entrepreneurship A.A.S.
Whether you are interested in launching your first business venture, or an existing small business owner looking to grow your current business, this program will give you the necessary skills to pursue that dream. You will learn the fundamentals for increasing the likelihood of building sustainable success, and coursework will help you develop an entrepreneurial mindset, understand entrepreneurial finance, small business management, marketing, and legal issues for small business owners.

Forensic Science Studies A.S.

Forensic Science Studies A.S.
Addressing the interdisciplinary nature of forensic science (the application of science to the criminal justice system), this course of study focuses heavily on criminal justice and the sciences. The graduate will have an opportunity to transfer seamlessly to John Jay College of Criminal Justice, one of the world's forensic science leaders.

Health Information Management and Technology A.A.S.

Health Information Management and Technology A.A.S.
This degree provides you with a foundation of skills to become a medical office assistant, health information technician, medical coding specialist and/or health insurance billing specialist. Coursework maps to American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) curriculum and prepares you for Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and Certified Physical Practice Management (CPPM) exams.

Marketing A.A.S.

Marketing A.A.S.
Designed for students who want to find careers in marketing, sales, advertising or related fields, the program will also provide you with a strong foundation of general business knowledge. You will have the knowledge and skills to gain immediate employment or transfer to a four-year college or university.

Public Administration Studies A.A.S.

Public Administration Studies A.A.S.
This program is designed for both recent high school graduates and for persons presently employed in the public sector who wish to work toward a degree. Graduates of the program can transfer to a public affairs, public policy, or public administration program at a four-year institution.

Our academic advisors assist students with scheduling, adding or dropping a course and planning for their academic future. Academic advisors also are a good place to start when you're not sure who you need to talk to about a problem or question and they can assist you in identifying and communicating with other offices at the college.
