Beginner's Guide to Investing

In this personal finance workshop for investing beginners, we’ll discuss short-term investments like money market and CDs, and work up to bonds, stocks and mutual funds, as well as how to set investment goals, determine your risk tolerance, and create an investment plan; short-term and long-term investment opportunities; the basic types of investment accounts; and how to research investments.

Taught by a chamber of commerce president and award-winning business owner, this course will introduce you to 250 legitimate home business ideas, as well as mandatory legal documentation, ways to market your product or service, and how to take tax deductions. The webinar login information will be emailed the day before class. Students that need to withdraw from the class must do so five business days prior to the start of class for a refund. This course is taught remotely via Zoom.

NYS Notary Public Law Refresher Course

This course reviews and updates the current New York notary laws. The current 22-page New York Notary Law Booklet will be reviewed and highlighted with the new electronic notarization information and notary journal recordkeeping protocols. This presentation is a must for every commissioned New York notary to properly execute their authority, duties and responsibilities. Examples using real-life scenarios will explain situations that a notary public officer is likely to encounter. Topics include an overview on how to avoid conflicts of interest, legal ethics, allowable fees, and addressing special situations. All materials will be provided, including a website link to the NYS Department of State licensing information and a 68-page Notary Review Guidebook with current glossary terms. Course fee includes a $18 materials fee.

Notary Public Review Workshop

This workshop prepares you for the New York State notary public test and will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the notary public’s role. Confusing laws, concepts and procedures will be clearly explained and clarified. Examples will be provided to illuminate situations that a notary public is likely to encounter. Topics include avoiding conflicts of interest, maintaining professional ethics, charging proper fees, handling special situations, when to defer to an attorney, and minimizing legal liability. This workshop is a must for candidates who want to become fully aware of the authority, duties and responsibilities involved in becoming a notary. All materials will be provided, including website information, booklets and forms. Also featured is an 80-question practice exam that attempts to emulate the actual New York State mandatory exam. Course fee includes a $18 materials fee.
