Antoinette Howard Named Chairperson of Teacher Preparation Department

Antoinette HowardAntoinette "Toni" Howard of Waterford has been named the department chair for the Teacher Preparation Department at Hudson Valley Community College. Howard has served as interim department chair since last fall.

An assistant professor and a faculty member at the college since 2005, she brings a wide range of teaching experience to her new position, including more than a decade as a college-level instructor at Hudson Valley and service as an elementary school educator in the South Colonie School District and at Albany's Montessori Magnet School.

In her new position, she oversees curriculum and faculty development for six different degree and certificate programs – special education assistant and teaching assistant certificates, early childhood and adolescent education associate degrees and the department's newest programs – a degree and certificate in early childhood administration. The department serves more than 200 students.

In addition to her teaching duties at the college, she serves as a mentor for the college's Center for Effective Teaching and has served as an academic advisor and field placement collaborator for the department. She received Hudson Valley's President's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2015.

Howard earned an A.A.S. degree in early childhood education from Maria College, a B.A. in elementary education from The College of St. Rose, and a M.S. in curriculum development and instructional technology from the University at Albany.
