Graduates Share Inspiring Stories Prior to Commencement

May 17, 2019

Hudson Valley Community College will hold its 65th annual Commencement ceremony, Saturday, May 18, 2019.

Graduation means so much more than just a degree to our students. Many have inspiring stories to tell, such as Rasul Ali, who worked full time while pursuing his degree in Engineering Science, or Lindsey Gileski, who will earn her college degree in Entrepreneurship as well as her high school diploma from Galway High School.

Other examples of perseverance include Ali Cheema who returned to the US to attend college after growing up in Pakistan, Molly Novakowski who is a full time mother who returned to college to earn a nursing degree, and Sayema Matin whose parents emigrated from Pakistan and who earned the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.

Nearly 2,000 students, more than 80 percent of whom are Capital Region residents, will earn associate degrees or certificates. Capital Region high school graduates choose Hudson Valley more than any other college or university to pursue their higher education.
