HVCC Offers Free, Live Concert Series during Fall Semester

Four concerts feature local talent and multiple music genres.
Hudson Valley Community College will showcase the talents of several Capital Region groups and various musical styles in a four-part concert series that begins Oct. 27 and concludes on Dec. 1. All of the upcoming programs will be held on Thursdays at noon in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center (BTC) Auditorium on the Troy campus. Each hour-long program will be open free to the public; no reservations or tickets are required to attend.
Hot Club of Saratoga
Thursday, Oct. 27 at noon in the BTC Auditorium
Hot Club, the region’s premier gypsy swing band, is Chuck Kish, guitar; Bobby Kendall, bass; Jonathan Greene, clarinet; Tucker Callander, violin, and often guest musicians. The band continues the true gypsy jazz tradition that originated in France in the 1930s, exploring its full range from sweet, soulful ballads to hard-driving swing.
Blues Guitarist Thomasina Winslow
Thursday, Nov. 3 at noon in the BTC Auditorium
A local favorite who often plays with the band Nite Train, Thomasina Winslow has performed in the UK, Europe and Australia. She is devoted to introducing acoustic blues for new audiences. Sample or download “Return” (2020) at www.thomasinawinslow.com.
The McKrells
Thursday, Nov. 17 at noon in the BTC Auditorium
Perennial favorites, The McKrells has shared its Celtic-infused bluegrass with countless audiences around the world, yet maintains a welcome presence in the great Northeast. Founder Kevin McKrell, singer, songwriter, guitarist; Arlin Greene, bass; Scott Hopkins, banjo; Brian Melick, percussion; Frank Orsini, fiddle, and Peter Pashoukos, guitar, will play from their vast repertoire, including “Still Pickin’,” a 2022 album.
Fuego Sonoro
Thursday, Dec. 1 at noon in the BTC Auditorium
New to the area’s live music scene, Fuego Sonoro performs 1950s-era Latin music -- bossa novas, Brazilian choros, Caribbean rhumbas and calypsos. Jonathan Greene, clarinet; Brian Melick, drums; Jon Suters and Jason Ennis, guitars, spice up familiar melodies and rhythms with improvisation to create a fresh, yet still classic sound.
