Three Students Named Phi Theta Kappa All-New York Academic Team
April 28, 2022
Hudson Valley Community College students Mariam Alyassin, Dara Blanchette and Jalen Davenport were recently named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-New York Academic Team.
Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in higher education, serving nearly 1,300 colleges in all 50 states and nine countries. Members of the All-New York Academic Team are recognized for their academic achievements, leadership accomplishments and engagement in community service.
At a ceremony held April 13 at Onondaga Community College, the three students were recognized along with honorees from community colleges around the state.
Alyassin is an Engineering Science graduate who plans to transfer to a four-year college or university next fall to continue her studies. Davenport is graduating with an Individual Studies degree and will continue his higher education next fall at the University at Albany. Blanchette is a returning student and mother of three who recently completed the Health Sciences certificate program. She will be entering the Dental Hygiene degree program next fall.
The college’s Alpha Xi Sigma chapter is one of the most active in the SUNY community college system and was recently honored with several awards at the 2022 New York State PTK regional conference.
“Mariam, Dara and Jalen are some of the most accomplished students we have at Hudson Valley, and we are so proud that they have been recognized for those accomplishments,” said President Roger Ramsammy. “I encourage more students to join the Phi Theta Kappa chapter on campus, if they are eligible. It is a great way to showcase one’s scholarship and ambition.”
