College to Celebrate Homecoming, Pumpkin Palooza on Saturday, Oct. 23

Hudson Valley Community College will hold both its annual Homecoming festivities and annual Pumpkin Palooza community Halloween event on Saturday, Oct. 23.
This year's festivities include a full day of activities and events, all of which are open to the public.
The day will begin at with the annual Race Away Stigma 5K Race and Fun Walk works to fight the negative stigma associated with mental health concerns, which can be what stops many students from seeking help they may need. The race is free for Hudson Valley students, and open to the community for a small fee. Registration starts at 8:30, and the race begins at 10 a.m.; preregistration is available online.
A Tailgate Party and BBQ will be held at the picnic area by the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium from noon- 2 p.m. Alumni, students, faculty and staff, and community members are invited to enjoy free music, food and beverages before the Homecoming football game.
At 2 p.m., the Vikings football team will take on Erie Community College for the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Region 3 Championship. Admission to the game is free.
At 5 p.m., the community is invited to join the annual Pumpkin Palooza, hosted by the Student Activities Office by the practice football field (in case of inclement weather, it will be moved to the McDonough Sports Complex). This is a free Halloween celebration that includes music, refreshments, clowns, balloon artists, carnival games with prizes, a magic show, caricatures and more. Attendees of all ages are welcome to wear their Halloween costumes.
The day’s events will conclude at 7 p.m. with a fireworks show by the Hudson Valley football field.
