Nursing Student Named 2021 PTK Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar
August 23, 2021
Freshman Nursing student Jasmine Adams is one of 207 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society members from across the nation to be awarded the 2021 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship.
Adams will receive a $1,000 scholarship to help defray educational expenses while enrolled in the Nursing program. Recipients are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service and leadership potential. More than 900 applications were received.
Phi Theta Kappa is the largest academic honor society in higher education, serving nearly 1,300 colleges in all 50 states and nine countries.
“I came back to school as an adult learner, and a single mom of two, during the COVID-19 pandemic. I always wanted to be a nurse, but after trying once in the past and dropping out of college, I kept putting it on pause,” Jasmine said. “My goal is to get my RN and show my kids you can succeed even when life hands you a loaded deck!”
Adams, who was inducted into PTK this spring, also was the recipient of organization’s 2021 StudyBuddy Scholarship, which covered the complete cost of preparation courses for the HESI test that helps determine eligibility for each incoming Nursing class. She was one of 25 PTK members to receive the award this spring.
