College’s 67th Commencement Events Celebrate More Than 1,500 Graduates
April 21, 2021
updated April 29, 2021 and May 24, 2021
Hudson Valley Community College will hold its 67th annual commencement exercises in a unique hybrid format. Four abbreviated in-person ceremonies, organized by program of study, will be held in the Joseph L. Bruno stadium on May 15, 2021, followed by a virtual commencement celebration that will be live streamed that evening. Graduates from the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021 are invited to participate, as COVID-19 restrictions precluded the college from offering an in-person commencement event in 2020.
NOTE: Graduates who plan to attend an in-person ceremony must register by Monday, May 3.
All in-person events will be held in accordance with New York State COVID-19 health and safety guidelines. Accordingly, graduates are allowed to have two guests in attendance following proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test results. All four ceremonies will provide individual recognition for graduates and include remarks by President Roger Ramsammy, Vice President for Academic Affairs Judith DiLorenzo and academic deans. Ceremonies will be livestreamed on the college’s website.
The virtual commencement celebration on Saturday evening, hosted by news anchor and Hudson Valley alumnus John Gray, will include musical performances, special award recognition, success stories, remarks from college, student, and local leaders, and other traditional commencement elements.
The Class of 2021 includes 1,646 students who will earn associate degrees and certificates. Of them, 451 will graduate with academic honors, and 179 are members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Graduates from more than 80 career- and transfer-oriented programs range in age from 17 to 72. There are 61 active duty members of the U.S. military or veterans of service, 18 of whom are graduating with honors. Though 82 percent of this year’s graduates are from the Capital Region, the Class of 2021 also includes students from 37 countries.
