Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted

The Hudson Valley Community College Foundation is accepting scholarship applications for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Newly-accepted and returning students are eligible to apply for scholarship awards that range from $250 to $2,000. More than 180 students have received Foundation scholarship awards, valued at more than $200,000, during the current academic year.
Students interested in applying should visit https://hvcc.academicworks.com, and sign in with their college-issued username and password. Applications must be submitted prior to March 25, and scholarships awarded this spring are intended to support a student’s fall 2021 tuition.
Many scholarships are awarded for students in particular academic programs or those with specific needs. Several new funds have been established this year, including:
David Allard ’75 & Marjorie Sawyer Science Scholarship - This scholarship is awarded to a student, with a preference in the Environmental Science or Radiologic Technology fields. The recipient must be a permanent resident of the counties of Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie or Washington; and able to demonstrate a financial need.
David Allard, the recipient of the college’s 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award, received an associate degree in Environmental Health Technology in 1975 and has established a career as a nationally and internationally recognized expert in radiation protection.
John Rapp. Jr. ’12 Automotive Scholarship - Recipients of this scholarship must be enrolled full-time in the Automotive Technology program, with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Preference will be given to students from Albany County; graduates of Bethlehem Central High School; or students who attended the Capital Region BOCES auto mechanic program.
This scholarship was created in memory of John Rapp Jr., who graduated in 2012 with an associate degree in Automotive Technical Services. Following graduation he worked for two local GM dealerships, obtaining Master-level certification.
Art for Good Scholarship - In creating this scholarship, Garry Polmateer ’99 wanted to help minority students interested in the fine arts by covering some of their material costs. Polmateer calls his education at Hudson Valley “transformational” and he hopes this fund lowers barriers and gives more people a chance to experience the same top-notch education in the arts, regardless of privilege.
PFC Nathan P. Brown “Pay a Good Deed Forward” Scholarship - The Village to Village Foundation created four “Pay a Good Deed Forward” scholarships to serve as living legacies for fallen service members. Honoree PFC Nathan P. Brown, a native of South Glens Falls, was in Iraq for only six weeks before he was killed on Easter Sunday 2004, at age 21. PFC Brown was assigned to the Army’s National Guard, 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry, 1st Armored Division. He was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and New York State Medal of Valor.
