George J. Raneri, who has served as secretary to Hudson Valley Community College's Board of Trustees for the past 21 years and previously served as a trustee from 1981 through 1998, has been named secretary for the New York Community College Trustees (NYCCT) for a second term.
NYCCT is a non-profit consortium of community college trustees who work to strengthen the effectiveness of the state's community college governing boards in the development and implementation of public policy.
Raneri, an emeritus trustee to Hudson Valley's board, has served as the college's appointed delegate to NYCCT for 37 years and was named secretary in 2017. As secretary, he is a member of the organization’s executive committee.
Raneri has previously received several NYCCT honors, including the 1994 Marvin A. Rapp Award for Distinguished Trustee Service, which is given for dedicated and effective service as a trustee over an extended period of time, and the 2009 Alice Holloway Young Award for Distinguished Service, which is given to a distinguished trustee following his or her retirement from the board.
Raneri was also recently named a lifetime member of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), a non-profit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern over 1,200 community, technical, and junior colleges in the United States and beyond.
“Hudson Valley Community College is proud to congratulate George Raneri on his reappointment as secretary for NYCCT, and to honor him with a lifetime membership to the ACCT organization in recognition of his decades of service to the college and his lifelong commitment to education,” said Hudson Valley President Roger Ramsammy. “We are grateful to George for his ongoing service to the college and the dedication to our students that he has demonstrated throughout his career.”
In addition to a career in education spanning four decades, upon graduating from college, Raneri assumed the role of principal in the Ephratah Common School District for six years before becoming principal of Miller Hill - Sand Lake Elementary Schools for 34 years.
Raneri has served in membership and leadership positions on an extensive list of boards and organizations in higher education throughout his career, along with numerous community and civic groups, and received more than a dozen honors and awards from various organizations for his continued efforts to enrich educational opportunities for students.
