Hudson Valley to Honor Class of 2020 with Virtual Celebration

Because of social distancing restrictions related to COVID-19, Hudson Valley Community College has replaced its 66th annual Commencement ceremony with an online celebration of the Class of 2020. The virtual event will be streamed online, Saturday, June 6 at 7 p.m. and will include a series of special guest speakers and performances that pay tribute to the Class of 2020.
A list of Hudson Valley’s 2020 graduates will be featured in several local newspapers on Saturday, May 16, the college’s original Commencement date Graduates and their families are encouraged to celebrate their accomplishment on social media using #HVCCgrads.
In mid-June, graduates will receive a special packet in the mail that will include their diplomas as well as other special gifts and memorabilia to commemorate their accomplishments.
The Class of 2020 includes 1,790 students graduating with associate degrees and certificates. Of them, 397 will graduate with academic honors, and 156 are members of the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society.
Graduates from more than 80 career- and transfer-oriented programs range in age from 17 to 64. There are 60 active duty members of the U.S. military or veterans of service. Though 82 percent of this year’s graduates are from the Capital Region, the Class of 2020 also includes students from 43 other countries.
