Students in Hudson Valley Community College’s Health and Wellness Studies and Exercise Science degree programs now have a new option to continue their studies after graduation.

The SUNY community college and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) recently signed an agreement that will provide seamless transfer into three bachelor’s degree programs at RIT’s prestigious Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition.

Students who complete the Health and Wellness Studies associate degree at Hudson Valley and meet the academic standards noted in the agreement will be guaranteed admission to either RIT’s Dietetics and Nutrition or Nutritional Sciences B.S. programs with a third year (junior) status. Those who complete the Exercise Science associate degree at Hudson Valley can transfer directly to the B.S. program in Exercise Science at RIT.

Each year, Hudson Valley enrolls approximately 125 students in its two associate degree programs.

“Since first offering these programs five years ago, we’ve seen a growing number of students who are interested in pursuing careers in the fields of health and wellness and exercise science,” said Department Chairperson Colleen Ferris. “These new transfer agreements provide another pathway for our students to start their education here at Hudson Valley and continue their education with some highly-respected programs at RIT.”

“The Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition at The Rochester Institute of Technology is looking forward to accepting students from Hudson Valley and to help them build rewarding careers related to health and well-being,” said Barbara Lohse, head of the Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition. “Our programs can lead to being a registered dietitian, nutritionist, certified strength and conditioning coach, exercise science professional, or prepare students for medical school and other graduate health or science programs.”

Hudson Valley has more than 250 transfer agreements with colleges and universities throughout the country. For up-to-date information on all of the college’s transfer agreements, contact the Center for Careers and Transfer at (518) 629-7326 or email cct@hvcc.edu.
