Shakespeare & Company Offers “Macbeth” and “The Comedy of Errors” in Free Performances
February 13, 2020
The Lenox, MA-based Shakespeare & Company brings two of the Bard’s classic plays to the Maureen Stapleton Theatre on the Troy campus. The 90-minute productions are part of the company’s educational touring program and are suitable for ages 12 and up.
“Macbeth” will be performed from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, followed by “The Comedy of Errors” from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20. All are welcome to attend and admission is free.
“Macbeth” dramatizes the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake. “The Comedy of Errors” is Shakespeare’s shortest play and one of his most farcical comedies brimming with slapstick, mistaken identity, puns and word play.
These performances mark the 11th year of Shakespeare & Company’s week-long residency at the college when a series of acting and theater arts workshops are offered to students. The residency traditionally includes free performances for the public during the week-long February break observed by most public school districts.
