Hudson Valley Community College students Shane Batcher and Daniel Kusky were recently named to the USA Today Phi Theta Kappa All-New York Academic Team.

Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in higher education, serving nearly 1,300 colleges in all 50 states and nine countries. Members of the All-New York Academic Team are recognized for their academic achievements, leadership accomplishments and engagement in community service.

At a ceremony held this month at the New York State Museum, Batcher and Kusky were honored with other students from community colleges around the state.

Kusky is pursuing an Engineering Science degree. He is treasurer of the Student Senate, serves on the board of the Faculty Student Association and is the college's student representative on the Capital Region Community College Council. In addition, he is treasurer of the Entrepreneurship Club and serves as a peer tutor in the college's Learning Assistance Center.

Batcher is also an Engineering Science major who serves as a peer tutor in the college's Learning Assistance Center and is a member of the Student Senate. He also is president of the Tour Guide Club.

"Phi Theta Kappa annually recognizes community college students from across the nation who make a positive impact on their campus and community," said Hudson Valley President Drew Matonak. "On behalf of the college, I'd like to congratulate Shane and Dan for this recognition. They are the kind of students who make Hudson Valley a vibrant academic and social community."
