Instant Admission, Open House, Girls in STEM Event at TEC-SMART

What: Hudson Valley Community College will host an Open House and Instant Admission Day on Saturday, April 1 at its TEC-SMART (Training and Education Center for Semiconductor Manufacturing and Alternative and Renewable Technologies) facility. The fifth annual Girls in STEM event will also take place at TEC-SMART on Saturday.
Why: Located in Malta, TEC-SMART is one of Hudson Valley's extension centers that offers convenient higher education destination for residents of Southern Saratoga County. TEC-SMART offers liberal arts, business, general education, semiconductor manufacturing and clean energy courses in a state-of-the-art learning environment. This event offers tours, information, and instant admission opportunities for incoming students. Information will also be available on the Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School, a partnership with Ballston Spa Central School District, and a new partnership that will allow GLOBALFOUNDRIES employees to earn a Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology A.A.S. degree at TEC-SMART through the company.
Who: College administrators, faculty, admissions and financial aid advisors will be on hand to speak with prospective students. Congressman Paul Tonko will be in attendance to give remarks during the Girls in STEM event at 8:45 a.m.
Where: TEC-SMART is located at 345 Hermes Road in Malta in NYSERDA's Saratoga Technology + Energy Park®
When: Instant Admission and Open House will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 1. Girls in STEM will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Details: The Open House offers participants a chance to tour the TEC-SMART facility, meet faculty, academic advisors, admissions and financial aid counselors; find information on the Clean Technologies and Sustainable Industries Early College High School programs; learn about college courses at TEC-SMART; and enjoy refreshments in the Wireless Café. This year, there will also be a chance to learn about the new Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology A.A.S. degree partnership for GLOBALFOUNDRIES employees, as well as attend a GLOBALFOUNDRIES cleanroom demonstration.
Instant Admission offers the opportunity for in-person acceptance to the college and eliminates the application fee. Interested students should bring academic records from high school, GED or college. To begin the financial aid process, they should bring their latest tax returns as well.
TEC-SMART will also host the fifth annual Girls in STEM event from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. This free educational event features hands-on workshops facilitated by leaders and educators in STEM professions designed to illustrate the fun side of science and technology. Girls in STEM is sponsored by AT&T, Hudson Valley Community College, Saratoga County Prosperity Partnership, the Center for Economic Growth, and other local partners.
