College Foundation Honors Doug Baldrey with Outstanding Philanthropy Award
January 16, 2017
The Hudson Valley Community College Foundation honored Doug Baldrey with its Outstanding Philanthropy Award during the recent Leadership Donor Reception, held each year to honor contributions to the Foundation. The award is presented to an individual, couple or family foundation that has shown exemplary leadership through charitable giving while motivating others to support the Foundation's initiatives.
Baldrey, who is only the second person to receive the award since its inception, was honored for his contributions to the college and the community over his nearly four decade career as a professor and administrator.
"We at the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation are proud and happy to honor Doug Baldrey with the 2016 Outstanding Philanthropy Award," said Regina Scarano LaGatta, Interim Executive Director of Hudson Valley Community College Foundation. "His ongoing support and numerous contributions to the college continue to make a wonderful difference for our students, and it is our pleasure to recognize his accomplishments with this distinguished award."
Baldrey began his career at Hudson Valley in 1962 as a faculty member in the department of Engineering and Technology Studies. In addition to his work as a professor, he went on to serve in an administrative capacity as a department chair, associate dean and interim dean. He has been active with the college Foundation for decades and has demonstrated leadership by mentoring both staff and fellow board members for over 25 years.
Baldrey also helped establish Project Lead the Way and the Verizon Next Step Program, and he and his family established The Ann and Doug Baldrey Scholarship in 2007, which is awarded each year to a student enrolled in either the Human Services or Engineering Science programs. He is a member of the Annual Fund's President Circle, and has served as a charter member for NYSETA (the New York State Engineering Technology Association) and as a long-time member of the Rensselaer County IDA, and the YMCA of Troy, where he earned the president's award for outstanding service. Baldrey has also been recognized with the college's John Buono Athletic Leadership Award and the Hudson Valley Community College President's Award. Baldrey has helped the college secure a variety of grants throughout the years, and remains a tireless champion for the college and its foundation.
