New Cardiac Monitor for Paramedic Program Funded by Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation

Hudson Valley Community College Paramedic students and their faculty members celebrated the acquisition of a new, state-of-the-art cardiac monitor/defibrillator on Wednesday, Nov. 30, with those who helped fund the new equipment.
Funding from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation helped pay for a LifePak 15 cardiac monitor/defibrillator worth nearly $19,000, and representatives from Firehouse Subs were at the paramedic training facilities at 400 Jordan Road in North Greenbush to help announce the gift.
About 50 of the college's Paramedic students joined President Drew Matonak, Cardiorespiratory and Emergency Medicine Department Chair Patty Hyland and other members of the college staff to thank Firehouse Subs representatives.
Faculty and students demonstrated how the equipment will be used in training.
On hand were Latham Firehouse Subs franchisee Joe Deeb, Firehouse Subs Area Representative David Tucci and Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Senior Manager of Foundation Programs Jackie Gubbins. Funding for the equipment was accepted by the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation.
The LifePak 15 cardiac monitor/defibrillator will help train the college's Paramedic students to better respond to cardiac arrests in the field and those in need of Advanced Life Support.
In 2005, founders of the Firehouse Subs chain of restaurants established the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. Its mission is to provide funding, life-saving equipment, and educational opportunities to first-responders and public safety organizations. To date, the foundation has given more than $23 million to hometown heroes, including more than $253,000 in New York.
