April 16, 2016

Following the success of an inaugural event two years ago, Hudson Valley Community College hosts its second Guitar Festival on Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23, beginning at 10 a.m. each day. The event – open to the public – will be held in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center on the Troy campus.

The two-day Guitar Festival is a celebration of electric, acoustic and bass guitars featuring guitarists and luthiers from the greater Capital Region. The event features various styles of music including blues, bluegrass, classical, flamenco, gypsy, jazz, metal, rock and roll, rhythm and blue, roots, rockabilly and western swing.

Hands-on workshops -- with local guitarists Graham Tichy, Lori Friday, Mark Gamsjager, Scott Collins, Christopher Gotzen-Berg, Michael Dimin, Thomasina Winslow, Chuck D'Aloia, Kenny Hohman, Sten Isachsen, Bernie Mulleda, Mike McMann, Gary Cellucci, David LaPlante, Chris Chapman, Joe Lowry, Ray Andrews, Monica Roach, Harry George Pellegrin and Maria Zemantauski -- are a hallmark of the Guitar Festival. In addition, luthiers Michael Collins and Eric Marczak lead a workshop, while additional sessions with Madison Peruzzi cover guitar set-up, maintenance and special effects.

Performances include a blues jam with Super 400 and an open mic hosted by Caroline Motherjudge, both on Friday, plus GX3 and KoriSoron in concert on Saturday afternoon.
