College Hosts Annual Two-Part Student Art Exhibition

Hudson Valley Community College's Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Broadcast Communications presents two, year-end student exhibitions – the Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition and the Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting Exhibition – Friday, April 29 through Saturday, May 7 in the college's Teaching Gallery.

An opening celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 29 includes a reception and awards' ceremony during which department awards and four additional awards, underwritten by Arlene's Artist Materials, are announced. The reception and exhibitions are open free to the public.

The juried exhibition features work by students in the college's A.S. in Fine Arts program, who submit class work in painting, drawing, photography, and two-dimensional design completed during the past three semesters. Both exhibits were planned, coordinated and installed by students in the Gallery Practicum I class.

Guest juror Amy Griffin, exhibition and public programs coordinator at the Opalka Gallery, Sage College of Albany, has been an arts writer for the Albany Times Union and other publications since 2011. She also taught in the art departments of The College of Saint Rose, Purdue University, Sage College of Albany, and the University at Albany. She previously worked as image researcher and photographer in the exhibition department of the New York State Museum. Ms. Griffin holds both a B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Photography.

The advanced study exhibition, entitled "Above Our Heads, It's Just Noise," includes work by Kylie Farrell, Becca Fortune, Cassaundra Fraley, Hannah Hutchinson, Megan Kluball, Trevor Kuhl, Jessica Mastrobuono, Vic Moore, Dylan Soares-Kern, Jean Ellen Sotansky, Corina Waters, and Zach Whitford. Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting is a two-semester course for students who have completed foundation arts courses and wish to pursue their own body of work.

Hours in the Teaching Gallery, located on the ground floor of the college's Administration Building, are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Wednesday, 1 - 7 p.m.; Saturday, noon - 4 p.m.; closed Sunday and Monday. Directions and more information are at www.hvcc.edu/teachinggallery.
