Automotive Department Open House Welcomes Prospective Students on April 15

The Automotive, Manufacturing and Electrical Engineering Technologies Department at Hudson Valley Community College will showcase its programs in Automotive Technical Services, Autobody Repair and Automotive Management at an Open House on Friday, April 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Cogan Hall. Prospective students and others interested in the automotive industry are encouraged to attend.

In addition to learning about the college's programs, participants will have an opportunity to speak with local employers about current job openings. College staff and advisors will provide information about careers, industry innovations and growth, educational requirements and program enrollment. Tool company representatives from the automotive industry will be available to answer student questions.

The day also will feature tours of the automotive labs, lab demonstrations and automobile displays.

The Automotive Management program, new to the college in 2011, was designed to meet the demand for technically advanced and business-savvy workers for management positions at dealerships, automotive corporations or privately run service and repair shops. The Automotive Technical Services program has been offered at the college since 1953, while the Automotive Technical Services - Autobody Repair program has been in existence since 1987. All three programs have master certification in applied academics from the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (MATE). 

While most automotive program graduates gain immediate employment, many also continue their education at four-year institutions. Industry experts predict job growth of 19% in the field over the next five years.
