TEC-SMART Holds Open House on March 12

February 22, 2016

Hudson Valley Community College's TEC-SMART extension center in Malta will hold an open house and information session, Saturday, March 12 from 10 a.m. to noon.

The open house will allow those interested to find out more about the programs and courses offered at TEC-SMART. Tours of the facility will be offered. Information sessions will focus on two new academic degree programs offered by the college – Mechatronics and Clean Energy Management.

The Mechatronics associate in applied science degree will prepare graduates to enter the engineering and manufacturing industries as technicians, inspectors or testers working on multi-million dollar machines and devices in a variety of high-tech industries. The Clean Energy Management associate in applied science degree combines hands-on training in sustainable energy with courses in business, sales and management.

Admissions and financial aid representatives will also be on hand.

TEC-SMART (Training and Education Center for Semiconductor Manufacturing and Alternative and Renewable Technologies), which is located on Hermes Road in NYSERDA's Saratoga Technology + Energy Park® (STEP®), features more than a dozen state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories to train the workforce. In addition to housing classrooms for Hudson Valley Community College courses in technology, computer science, the liberal arts and business, the facility also hosts the Clean Technologies and Sustainable Industries Early College High School (ECHS) program, a collaboration with the Ballston Spa School District that educates more than 250 students from 24 school districts around the region.

The Open House will coincide with the 4th Annual Girls in STEM event at TEC-SMART, an opportunity for girls in grades 4-8 to participate in a fun and interactive day that features hands-on workshops. The Girls in STEM event is hosted by the Center for Economic Growth.
