Resource Sharing Service
Books and articles which are not available from Dwight Marvin Library may be requested through this service by current students and employees.
Request an Item
Resource sharing requests are processed through the ILLiad automated system. Follow the ILLiad Login link below and log in using your Hudson Valley Community College username and password to get started. You will be notified by phone or email when requested items are available.
If you have any questions, please review the Frequently Asked Questions, call (518) 629-7387 or email library-resource-sharing@hvcc.edu.
Students, faculty and staff should understand the Resource Sharing Policy. Fines for lost material vary based on the lending library and the cost of the book. All fines will be posted to the student’s Hudson Valley Community College account.
If time is a key factor, then we will encourage students to go to their local public library and request the material needed through them. Please let us know if we can assist you or your local library in identifying resources.
Services for Distance Learning Students
Distance Learning (DL) students receive the same Library services that our on-campus students receive, including the resource sharing service. This service allows for the lending and borrowing of material between libraries. DL students may request material in several ways by logging in to the ILLiad site on this page; from the Ask a Librarian webpage; or by calling the Resource Sharing Desk at (518) 629-7387.
Upon receiving the request, staff will need to verify that the student requesting the material is enrolled for the current semester. The student needs to make sure that their request says they are a Distance Learning student and that the material needs to be mailed to them. The request also needs to have a telephone number, email address and full mailing address.
Students can search our electronic databases which has many articles that are full-text. Please contact our Reference Desk at (518) 629-7337 if you need assistance with searching in our electronic databases. Hard copy material that we own will be photocopied and mailed to the student’s home address. Books that we own will be checked out to the student in their name and mailed directly to the student. Materials such as books, journals, and newspapers that are owned by Hudson Valley Community College Library will be received faster than material which we have to request from other libraries. All material requested from another library will first come to our library here at Hudson Valley Community College. We will process the material and ship the material to the student at no cost. The student will not have to pay to return books to our Library here at Hudson Valley Community College. With each book students will receive a postage paid return mailer.
