Air Conditioning Service & Repair

This course provides an in-depth study of the practical aspects of residential and light commercial air conditioning equipment and systems. An emphasis is placed on the theory of heat transfer, good service and installation practices, and the use of instruments and gauges to assist in fault diagnosis. This AC Service and Repair course provides students with entry-level skills in the field of air conditioning installation, service and repair. Upon completion of the course, the student will need to obtain his or her EPA 608 certification prior to working in the field.

Prerequisites: 9th grade reading, writing and math skill levels. Students should have a strong interest in the fundamentals of air conditioning systems.

Electrical Wiring Principles & Practices

Electrical Wiring: Principles and Practices is a 32-hour training course that provides the student with entry-level electrical skills.

This course provides instruction in performing basic electrical tasks, including recognizing distinguishing characteristics of electrical systems and applying design principles and calculations for electrical distribution systems.

This course also provides the necessary foundation in electricity needed by those who wish to study the field of photovoltaics.

  • Electrical box sizing
• Design Guidelines/Building Electrical Planning
  • Circuiting: series and parallel

• Step up and Step Down Types

This course will be a mixture of lecture and electrical lab. Electrical safety for residential wiring will be discussed before any hands-on projects will be assigned. Multi-meters will be discussed and demonstrated on how to use on live electrical circuits.

Required: Students are required to bring the following to class: straight and Phillips head screwdrivers, wire testers, pliers, needle nose pliers, wire strippers for solid wire, utility knife, leather work gloves and safety glasses.

Prerequisites: A minimum 10th grade level reading and math skills.

OSHA 10 Construction Safety

This 10-hour construction safety course is intended for entry-level participants. Each student will receive an OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety wallet card upon successful completion. Training is delivered by a recognized OSHA-10 Construction Safety instructor.

Topic areas covered include the mandatory OSHA-10 Construction Safety topics, including, but not limited to:

• Introduction to OSHA
• The OSHA Focus Four Hazards
   
  • Falls
  • Electrocution
  • Struck-By (e.g., falling objects, trucks, cranes),
  • Caught-In or Between (e.g., trench hazards, equipment)
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
