Technology Enrichment Grades 3 - 5

This program is comprised of six modules. Campers participate in all of these throughout the week.

Module 1:  History Hunters

Module 2: Can You Dig It?

Module 3:  Pieces of Our Past

Module 4: Buried Stories

History Hunters

We dig for dinosaurs! We put on our paleontology hats and go looking for prehistorical treasure! In the space of a day, we follow the million-year process that changes a creature into a fossil. We learn the ins and outs of a paleontological dig and create our own 3D fossils.

Can You Dig It?

We examine bones! There are clues in the shape, size, and scratches on the artifacts that we unearth. We use our observational skills to piece together the puzzle and figure out what kind of animal we’re examining. We learn about bone shape and function, as well as placement. We get to take home bones, so we can practice putting them together.

Pieces of Our Past

We investigate artifacts! The only clues to our past are from the memories passed down as stories and from the remnants of materials that survived through the ages. We learn about patterns of wear, and hypothesize about the use of unfamiliar items. We get to decorate a clay pot, and use the pattern to help us reconstruct fragments of a broken pot.

 Buried Stories

We study ancient civilizations! Weather and weathering can alternatively bury and uncover societies from the past. We learn about Pompeii and recreate the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. We discover how certain conditions can preserve objects and help us better understand ancient cultures and historical events.

Ancient Artifacts

We unravel time! We discover how to date objects, using techniques like carbon dating and stratigraphy. We use a metal detector to find buried coins, and then use the skills we’ve learned to restore them to their former glory and figure out where they came from!

 Secret Agent Lab

This module features fun-filled, hands-on, secret-agent-themed science activities that allow kids to play detective, explore forensic science, sharpen their surveillance skills, and crack encrypted messages. Kids become super sleuths!

Module 5: Advanced Robotics

Ready for Robots

Campers will explore the fundamentals of robotics and discover how robots are used through activities and games. We will begin assembling our very own Kingii Dragon Robot kits that you will take home at the end of the week. What do gears and spirographs have in common with robots? We’ll find out, along with discovering how a “co-op-a-walk” works with your friends. Take home your very own squiggle ball and watch it do crazy turns.

Circuit Science

We will explore the “nuts and bolts” of robots as we build simple circuits, test them, and discover how switches work. You’ll try out a real robotic arm and construct your own scribble bot from scratch to take home!

Use Your Common Sensors!

We’ll discover how the world of robots is at your command, as they follow a line or listen to your words. Campers will build a system of snap circuits and play games that use their senses to communicate. You can build and take home your very own circuit maze.

Robots 101

Campers will learn about Asimov’s Law of Robotics and its application to robot technology. We will go on a bug hunt to learn how robots’ movements are similar to those seen in nature, watch a model car drive right up the wall, and practice with a real robotic arm. Campers can take home a springy robot-like hand that you work with your fingers.

Advanced Robotics

Campers will use their imaginations to create their own robot designs and recycle materials to make a model of their design. Then, we’ll have a chance test it in our obstacle course. We’ll race remote control cars and discover how robots are programmed via a sequence of commands. At the end of the week, campers will take home their robot to continue exploring the world of robotics.

Held at Tec-Smart campus on Hermes Road in Malta.
