How to Register

NOTE:  Individuals enrolling in on-campus classes must follow the COVID-19 vaccination requirements for students and should submit the COVID-19 Vaccination Documentation Form. Exemptions to these requirements may be requested based on either religious conviction or health reasons by submitting the appropriate Health Services form.

Courses

All Season Basket

Starting on an 8” round wooden base, weave with natural and dyed reed of various sizes to match your 2” seasonal fabric strip. Fabric will be in various fall and winter patterns in red, blue and autumn hues. Basket is 7” tall and 12” wide with leather bushel basket handles to coordinate with the fabric strip.

Students will need to bring a pencil, tape measure, old towel, scissors, spring-type clothespins and a small spray bottle. Please note: Fees for materials are non-refundable less than five business days prior to the start of the course. This course includes a $40 materials fee.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

There is no better way to show someone you care than to send them a card handmade by you. In each one of these classes, we will be creating cards that will delight and impress based on different themes. Come create with some amazing colors, images, techniques and folds designed for both the new and experienced stamper. Be sure to bring your own sharp scissors and double-sided adhesive to each class. Course fee includes $10 materials fee.

Basic Watercolor

Join us to discover your own unique ways of using transparent watercolor paint, from free experimentation to more controlled approaches. Explore mixing and layering colors, while observing flowers, still life, and landscape. Learn color theory, pencil sketching, composition, drawing directly with a brush, and planning area of wash. Everyone is welcome, both first-time and long-time painters. Please bring whatever materials you may already have, or purchase the following supplies: a pan set of transparent watercolors; a pointed round watercolor brush (approximately size 6; handle will be shorter than oil painting brush); pad of 140# watercolor paper; masking tape; pencil; two water containers; and two pieces of cardboard (slightly larger than size of paper).

Be Your Own Interior Decorator

What is a career as an interior decorator like? Find out in this camp! Learn what it takes to redecorate your bedroom by understanding the application of color and elements of design. Organize your bedroom space on graph paper and through the use of Google sketchup on computers. Create a design board that illustrates wall, floor and window treatments that you want to use for your bedroom redesign. End the camp by creating a sewless fleece pillow. In this camp you will show off your creativity. Course fee includes $35 materials fee.

Counter Basket

Creative Doodling

Do you doodle? Neuroscience has shown that doodling increases focus, reduces stress, boosts memory and sparks creativity! In this class we will create beautiful artwork, like magic, through doodling in pen and other mixed media such as watercolor, markers, pencils and more. Come unleash your creativity and have fun! You will need to bring pad of sketch, mixed media or watercolor paper; watercolor paints; and colored pencils or markers of your choice.

Design Your Own Spring Wreath

Design your own wreathCelebrate spring with a beautiful decorative wreath of your own design! Join designer/ decorator Erina Dacey as she guides you step by step in the creative process of making your own original wreath.  In this class you will learn how to put together a perfectly balanced wreath with an arrangement of flowers, ribbon and ornamental trinkets that looks like a professional florist created it.  All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring items you would like to include in your design. Class will be held in The Living Room Art Gallery, located in the Visitor Center of Historic St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. It is a large, airy room with lots of natural light.  Delicious baked goods and coffee are provided.  Just come ready to design something beautiful for your home or to give as a gift! Students must withdraw five business days before the start of the course for a full refund.

Dogwood Estate Painting

Join artist Noreen Powell for a lesson in light and color using acrylic paints on a 12” x 16” canvas. Noreen will do an original version of the image featured above and instruct participants on how to achieve perspective, depth, light and shadows in the creation of their own interpretation of “Dogwood Estate.” All materials including paint, brushes and canvas are provided. Fauxligraphy

Learn how to turn your own everyday handwriting into the most beautiful calligraphy you ever did see! No special tools or experience necessary. You’ll learn strokes while creating an alphabet, so by the time you’re at “Z,” you’ll have the whole calligraphy thing down! Then we’ll connect those letters to make words, and you’ll be guided through how to put it all together to create your own finished design and transfer it to your very own coffee mug.

Introduction to Interior Design

Are you a creative person with an eye for design? If so, this course will show you how to transform plain living spaces into beautiful and functional rooms.  Interior design takes training as well as talent, and these lessons will give you the know-how you need to design a room from floor to ceiling. You’ll delve into color theory, industry trends, spatial arrangements, floor plans, traditional and modern interior design ideas, and other basics. In addition, you’ll explore a range of careers in interior design and get insider tips for entering this exciting field.  Because interior design is constantly evolving, you’ll also learn about some of the latest trends affecting the industry. You’ll investigate “green” sustainable design, and you’ll find out how to modify your designs for people with special needs.  As you master design skills step-by-step, you’ll complete your first project: a fully developed room design complete with spatial layout, lighting, and finish selections. Paint Your Pet in Watercolors

Would you love to create watercolor paintings of animals, but find it a bit intimidating? Would you like to be able to create animal paintings that are impactful and full of life? In this course you will learn everything you need to know to create a beautiful, realistic portrait of your favorite pet! You’ll learn transfer and wet-on-wet techniques, blooming, masking, and how to create backgrounds and use layers of color to create depth and life in your portrait. It’s fun and easy when you know how! There will be separate segments on painting a variety of eyes, different types of fur, and how to create details that will bring your painting to life. Students need to bring watercolors (ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, permanent rose, lemon yellow, raw sienna, burnt sienna, white); brushes (¾” oval wash, 1 ½” hake, round synthetic #6, fan brush); palette (plastic palette (container) with lid); watercolor paper pad – 11” x 14” preferred; and a kneaded eraser. There will be a half hour break, so please bring your lunch.

Sheep's Wool Dryer Balls

Sheep's Wool Dryer BallsLearn how to make wool dryer balls using raw wool. Students will first wrap a piece of wool into a ball, then use hot soapy water and their hands to felt the ball. Once the balls are washed and dried, students will use needles to decorate the balls and then add fragrance using essential oils. Students must bring a pair of pantyhose and small bottle of dish soap to class. Students must not be allergic to wool. Course includes a $10 materials fee.

Join us in creating a beautiful and unique spring board art project! You will learn techniques of painting on wood, including color wash and stenciling. Students will be painting on wood boards with several quote options, stencil shapes, and colors to choose from. No experience necessary.

Course will be held at Art in Mind Studio.  The address is 123 Saratoga Road (route 50), Glenville, NY 12302. (Often comes up as Schenectady on GPS) They are in Socha Plaza toward the back corner of the plaza (suite 2-06), next door to Ruggiero's Pizza.
