Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Computer Science and Mathematics
The Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Computer Science and Mathematics Department can help you prepare for employment or transfer.
The department includes academic programs that have close ties to the region’s construction and engineering technology industry as well as programs with transfer agreements with some of the top engineering and engineering technology colleges in the country.
Programs
Architectural Technology A.A.S.
The Architectural Technology A.A.S. program opens up a variety of career and transfer opportunities for the successful graduate. Coursework emphasizes detailed residential and commercials construction drawings and renderings, computer-aided design as well as an understanding of building methods, materials, mechanical systems and cost estimating.
Civil Engineering Technology A.A.S.
In the Civil Engineering Technology A.A.S. program you will learn how apply engineering principles to real world problems, including how to perform field surveys, test and analyze construction materials and design hydraulic systems. Coursework also offers training in computer utilization and computer-aided drafting (CAD). The program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Commission (ETAC) of ABET, www.abet.org.
Computer Information Systems A.A.S. and A.S.
Computer Information Systems A.A.S. This program provides you with a strong foundation in a variety of computer information systems topics, including: programming and logic; information resource management; database management systems; and business analytics. You will be exposed to relevant programming languages, web design in accord with W3C UCD principles; big data/analytics; game design; and robotics.
The following tracks are available in this program:
Computer Information Systems A.S. In this program, coursework parallels the first two years of a four-year degree program in computer science, information technology, informatics, technology or computer information systems.
The Construction Certificate program offers hands-on training in all aspects of residential building including framing, foundations, masonry, insulation, interior finishing as well as plumbing and electrical work. Some students start with this program and transfer into the Construction Technology - Building Construction A.A.S. program to gain a broader background in commercial building design and project management, adding to their residential building skills.
Construction Technology - Building Construction A.A.S.
Graduates of the Construction Technology - Building Construction A.A.S. program will be prepared to work in the construction industry, performing surveys for construction site layouts, applying proper building codes, and preparing drawings for residential and commercial construction projects. BPI, ACI and NICET certifications are available.
Engineering Science A.S.
The Engineering Science A.S. degree program parallels the first two years of four-year college programs in various engineering fields. Graduates in good academic standing transfer to some of the top engineering schools in the country.
Hacking and Cybersecurity A.S.
Hacking and Cybersecurity A.S. Combining criminal justice and computer information systems coursework with a strong base of liberal arts courses, this program prepares you for transfer into a bachelor's degree program in Digital Forensics, Cybersecurity and other related programs.
Liberal Arts and Science - Mathematics and Science A.S.
The Liberal Arts and Science - Mathematics and Science A.S.degree program parallels the first two years of four-year college programs in the fields of math and science. The curriculum provides a foundation of core courses, and electives in the second year allow you to focus on a specific area of academic interest. The Liberal Arts and Science - Mathematics and Science Honors Track is designed to prepare academically advanced students for transfer to high-quality baccalaureate programs through focused interdisciplinary coursework linked to a variety of extracurricular activities.
Mechanical Engineering Technology A.A.S.
The Mechanical Engineering Technology A.A.S. program provides you with practical, hands-on experience with a strong foundation in mathematics, physics and related technology subjects, this program prepares you to enter the workforce or transfer to a four-year college. Learn how and why a system or mechanism works by studying materials, strength of materials, machine design, computer aided drafting and microcomputer applications. The program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Commission (ETAC) of ABET, www.abet.org.
Advisement
Students in all programs listed above, except Computer Information Systems and Hacking and Cybersecurity, receive academic advisement by appointment through the department. Renay Williams is the advisement specialist and is located in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center, Room 229. New and current students in this department who are looking for advisement should email STEMadvisement@hvcc.edu to set up an advisement appointment. Current students must use their HVCC email accounts. Students may also call the office at (518) 629-7358. If no one is available to take the call, please leave a message with your name, contact information and a brief description of your inquiry. NOTE:Current students asking questions over the phone may be asked for their FERPA password, depending on what is being asked. SeeCommunicating with Students Remotely and Complying with FERPAfor more details.
Students in Computer Information Systems programs receive academic advisement through the Business Advisement Center.
