Spring 2022 Semester Requirements for Students Attending In-Person Classes

Posted Jan. 6, 2022

Students:

As we prepare to welcome students on-campus for the Spring 2022 semester at Hudson Valley Community College, our first priority is, as always, the health and safety of our campus community. Like you, we continue to respond to the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic by following CDC, state and county health department protocols.

The State University of New York (SUNY) guides and approves all academic, health and safety plans for all public colleges in the state, including Hudson Valley, and has recently put forth some new requirements for the upcoming semester. Please take a moment to read the important updates below.

MANDATORY VACCINE AND BOOSTER POLICY:
Last fall, SUNY implemented a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all students taking in-person classes. That policy remains in effect, and has been modified to include a new booster requirement. All students taking in-person classes for the Spring 2022 semester must receive a COVID-19 booster shot as follows:

  • Students who are eligible to receive a booster before Feb. 1 must do so by that date, and submit proof to college Health Services via the online COVID-19 Vaccine Documentation form.
  • Students who will become eligible to receive a booster after Feb. 1 must receive their booster and submit proof to college health services within 30 days of becoming eligible.
  • Booster eligibility information can be found on the CDC website.
    • Currently, those who received a Pfizer vaccine series are eligible for a booster 5 months after receiving their second shot; those who received a Moderna vaccine series are eligible for a booster 6 months after receiving their second shot; and those who received a Johnson & Johnson vaccine are eligible 2 months after receiving their single-dose shot.

RETURN TO CAMPUS TESTING REQUIREMENT:
SUNY is also mandating that all students taking in-person classes for the Spring 2022 semester participate in COVID-19 testing upon their return. This can be accomplished on campus through the college’s Pooled Surveillance Testing program, or through submission of a negative test taken off campus.
NOTE: There is no cost to participate in the college’s Pooled Surveillance Testing program, and testing takes only five to ten minutes to administer.

  • Drive-through testing will be available by appointment on campus Monday through Friday, Jan. 10-14 and Jan. 17-21, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Parking Lot G, by the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 11-12 and Jan. 18-19, additional drive-through testing will be available 4:30-6 p.m. Visit https://covidtest.hvcc.edu to schedule an appointment.
  • Indoor testing appointments are offered at the Siek Campus Center, first floor café, from Tuesday, Jan. 18 through Friday, Jan. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit https://covidtest.hvcc.edu to schedule an appointment.
  • If you prefer to submit proof of a negative test taken off campus, you may do so by Friday, Jan. 21 through the Documentation of COVID-19 Test Results form.
    • Note that only PCR, antigen or at-home tests are accepted. Antibody tests will not be accepted. Students who have tested positive within 90 days prior to their arrival on campus and have completed their quarantine/isolation period should use the same form to submit proof of their positive test result.
    • Individuals who test positive must report their positive test result to Health Services using the same form, isolate in accordance with CDC guidance and be cleared by Health Services before returning to campus.

Please note that additional testing requirements may be implemented during the Spring semester; if so, we will update the campus community accordingly.

SPRING SEMESTER START DATES AND INSTRUCTION MODALITIES:
At this time, per SUNY and state guidance, there are no changes to the semester start date or to course instruction modalities at Hudson Valley. The college plans to resume both in-person and remote/online courses for the Spring semester on Tuesday Jan. 18, 2022, as scheduled.

MASK USAGE:
Per state and SUNY policies, all individuals on campus continue to be required to wear masks while indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

Please note that failure to comply with these policies and procedures may result in disciplinary action, up to and including possible administrative withdrawal from in-person classes. More information and details on the college’s COVID-19 policies can be found at www.hvcc.edu/covid19. As always, we will communicate any changes or updates to you via your Hudson Valley email.

Thank you for your continued efforts as we work to ensure the health and safety of our campus community. We look forward to welcoming you back for a successful Spring semester.

Sincerely,

Louis Coplin, Vice President for Student Affairs
