We've created this section to help answer some
of the most frequently asked questions.
1. How do I enroll in an online course(s)?
students who would like to register for a course(s) as a non-matriculated
student (one who is not enrolled in a degree program) can register
for courses three different ways:
- By Advisement: Call

advisor. We will help you make the right choices.
- By Phone: Call (518) 629-4560 Monday
through Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Advisement
is not available. You will need to know the course title
and CRN (course registration number) to register by phone.
- Online: Click here to
register yourself via the website. You will need an AVN
(advisement verification number) to register. Please call

do I apply for an online degree program?
International students should request application forms well
in advance of the time they plan to attend Hudson Valley Community
College; this will allow for the exchange of correspondence and
the evaluation of necessary documents. International students
must present a translated, notarized copy of their academic credentials
when they apply for admittance to the college.
Students who are applying to enter into a degree program must
display proficiency in English and are required to take the Test
of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum TOEFL score
of 500 is required on the paper-based test, and a minimum score
of 173 is required for the computer-based test to gain admittance
to the college. An Advanced Placement International English
Exam (APIEL) with a minimum score of "3" will be accepted in
place of the TOEFL.

3. Am I required to take the TOEFL Exam?
International students who are applying to enter into a degree
program must display proficiency in English and are required
to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A
minimum TOEFL score of 500 is required on the paper-based test,
and a minimum score of 173 is required for the computer-based
test to gain admittance to the college. An Advanced Placement
International English Exam (APIEL) with a minimum score of "3" will
be accepted in place of the TOEFL.
International students who wish to take individual courses without
enrolling in a degree program are not required to take the TOEFL
Exam. It is strongly suggested that you display the same level
of proficiency in English as those applying to enter
into a degree program to ensure you receive the maximum educational
benefits to your academic coursework.
4. Do I
have to take the Hudson Valley Community College's Placement
International students who enroll in an online degree program
may be waived from the
Placement Test. This
decision is made on an individual basis and is at the discretion of the
coordinator of placement testing. In this case, academic advisors
will work with students on an individual basis to assess proficiencies
in the basic skill areas: writing, reading, and mathematics.
Students will work collaboratively with their advisors to schedule
their first semester classes based on high school and college
transcripts combined with any additional information provided

in taking a placement test are encouraged to call or email the
Placement Testing Office to discuss possible options.

5. Am I required to submit immunization records?
International students who register for online courses with
no on-campus requirements and who will not be coming to the campus
because they live outside of the area will be waived from college
6. What kind of support services can I expect as an online
The college offers a variety of support services for all online
students, including services through the Learning
Assistance Center (LAC) and the Library.
7. Do I have to come to campus to complete any course requirements?
Although most course work can be done from home, some courses may have required labs or other on-campus meetings. A few courses may also have mid-terms or finals on campus. See the Key to Online Learning Section Numbers chart to identify which course sections are offered entirely online, have proctored exam requirements, or have on-campus meetings.

9. How much does it cost to take an online course(s) or enroll in an online degree/certificate program?
International students that are residing outside the United States and are enrolling in an online degree or certificate program will be charged the New York State Resident Tuition rate. International students not enrolled in a degree or certificate program will be charged the Out-of-State Resident Tuition rate. All students will also be charged the mandatory Technology Fee and the Records and Activities Fee. See [Loading Tuition and Fees link…] for the current rates and fees.
